Veins of the City: how would nature design a street?

Join Christine Lintott Architects for an immersive design charrette, Veins of the City: how would nature design a street? Using biomimicry, this collaborative charrette brings together community to reimagine streets as living systems that can function like meadows, forests, wetlands, and water networks.

With nature as model, mentor and measure, participants will explore how natural functions can guide our urban streetscapes. Using strategies such as guided brainstorming, archival referencing, and sketching teams will translate ecological principles—adaptation, symbiosis, regeneration—into practical street design concepts.

Over the course of the charrette, attendees will co-create visionary yet implementable design interventions. From permeable surfaces modeled on forest floors to shading systems inspired by tree canopies and termite mounds, the session will emphasize performance-driven creativity and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re design-curious, shaping policy, or advocating for greener neighbourhoods. The Atrium is wheelchair accessible with washrooms. Noise levels can be a concern for sound sensitive participants. Bicycle parking is available near building entries. Street parking is available, as well as public parking in the nearby Johnson Street Parkade.
