This architect and designer-focused event explores the relationship between architectural design decisions and long-term building performance in coastal and seismic regions.
Two sessions will be offered: The first session begins with an AIBC-accredited learning presentation, followed by a guided tour of a completed Monolith Systems residence. The second session includes only a guided house tour and discussion.
Using the home as a built case study, the presentation examines strategies for achieving continuous insulation from foundation to roof, mitigating thermal bridging at structural penetrations and cantilevers, and integrating window systems within a high-performance envelope.
The session highlights system-aware detailing, envelope continuity, and interdisciplinary coordination as critical factors in durability, resilience, and occupant comfort. Particular focus is given to Pacific Northwest climate exposure, and the practical realities of translating architectural intent into built performance.
Approved by the Architectural Institute of British Columbia for 1 Core Learning Unit. The accredited learning session is offered during the first session only. AIBC members may claim credit.
