Join us for Family Day workshops!

Conveniently grouped in The Rotunda, Design Victoria is bringing together a variety of workshops for curious young minds. Kids and families can come and explore a variety of activities:

Lunar Design: Life on the Moon with ANCORD Design Co.

The workshop would be structured around two open stations — MOVE (transportation inside a lunar dome) and REST (furniture for sitting, sleeping, and eating in low gravity) — with activities scaling from colouring and sketching to simple prototyping. Rather than simulating science, the experience uses clear design rules (lower gravity, limited materials, modular and repairable systems) to guide creativity, with a shared pin-up wall where kids can display and sign their work throughout the day.‍

Reimagine Victoria: A Community Collage with Lucia Volker

Dream up a new vision for our city in this playful, hands-on collage workshop. Using bold materials, creative prompts, and your imagination, you’ll design your own mini masterpiece—then add pieces of it to a growing communal vision shaped by many participants. Watch as your ideas become part of a vibrant, collaborative cityscape inspired by family, creativity, and community.

Little Tile Setters with Vancouver Island Marble

Join us for our interactive tile setting/mosaic station for young learners. We will have mini tiles made from our three island quarried Marble varieties, which kids and families will be able to arrange into designs and images on our custom tile forms. Create images and patterns either following our provided templates, or design your own! Our workshop will give participants an opportunity to handle local marble tiles, and grow their understanding of what goes into creating their built environment.

Cardboard City Builders with MakeSpace North Park

MakeSpace will bring the BeaverBot (our kid-safe cardboard bandsaw) and invite families to help build a collaborative cardboard city. Participants will draw and cut building pieces from cardboard — houses, towers, bridges, parks, and strange inventions — and add them to a growing cityscape throughout the event. This activity emphasizes playful construction and hands-on making, and gives kids a chance to safely use a real tool while contributing to a shared project.

Activities are ongoing and open from 11am to 2pm at the Rotunda—stop by anytime!
