The event includes an introductory talk and tour by Architect Colin Harper, followed by an open house. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Guests will learn about the transformation of a former corner store into a compact single-family home, including the design decisions that shaped its final architectural form.
The house retains several defining aspects of its commercial past, including its close proximity to the sidewalk (common for storefronts, uncommon for houses), its pitched roof form, and a refurbished Pepsi sign. Beyond these elements, the building has been completely reimagined. The existing structure was rebuilt with lofty interiors, minimalist exteriors and generous glazing. A modern flat-roof addition contrasts with the original roofline, opening the home to an intimate courtyard and strengthening the connection between interior and exterior spaces.
